Scrubs (and particularly Ted)

Pretty much the only sitcom that I still watch is going off the air with a one-hour finale tonight.  Maybe.  Unless ABC decides to renew it.  But even if it comes back, it will likely be without key cast members and Bill Lawrence, who created and drove the show.

I am going to miss Scrubs.  It was consistently funny and a tad bit surreal.  The show knew how to use guest stars — see the devastating arc with Brendan Fraser — and music — see Men at Work singer Colin Hay wandering the hospital halls playing an acoustic version of Overkill.  All the characters were lovingly written and distinct, and all the actors all were ridiculously funny.  What more could you ask for.

But most of all I will miss Ted the attorney.  Played by Sam Lloyd, I’m going to nominate Ted for my favorite TV character of all time.  I start to smile every time he appears on the screen.  Seriously.  All he has to do is stand in the background, and I’m already laughing.

But don’t take my word for it.  In honor of Ted, check out these YouTube clips.

The Best of Ted

Ted Sings Hey Ya

As if Ted wasn’t funny enough, the man can sing too.  And the scenes with his a capella group are all classics.  (I’ll let you dig those up yourself.)

So long Scrubs.  And all I have to say is that if the powers-that-be do save this show, they should make Sam Lloyd the star and call it Ted.
