My Negatively Inclined Ipod

So I’ve mentioned before that I on occasion alphabetize all the songs on my Ipod by title, just to see if anything interesting pops up.  For example, I discovered that I have two songs called Kite (U2, Ivy) and five songs entitled Lullaby (Alana Davis, The Cure, Jack Johnson, Dixie Chicks and James).

I also have discovered that my Ipod is very negative.

It enjoys saying no.  In fact 26 songs start with the word “no.”  Taking the list of prohibitions to a seriously strict and surreal extreme, this might be the sign at my Ipod’s juke joint:

NO Dancing (Elvis Costello), NO Spill Blood (Oingo Boingo), NO Cheap Thrills (Suzanne Vega), NO Surprises (Radiohead), NO Sleep Tonight (The Faders),  NO Woman No Cry (Bob Marley), NO Cars Go (Arcade Fire), NO Ceiling (Eddie Vedder), NO Air (Jordan Sparks), NO Rain (Blind Melon), NO Time (Frente), NO Time This Time (The Police), NO Compassion (Talking Heads), NO More Love (God Lives Underwater), NO More Understanding (The Soup Dragons), NO Reason (Ben Kweller), NO Better Place (Fountains of Wayne), NO Need to Argue (The Cranberries), NO One Is to Blame (Howard Jones), NO One Lives Forever (Oingo Boingo), NO One Said It Would Be Easy (Sheryl Crow), NO Meaning No (Chuck D and Fine Arts Militia), NO Sale (The Suicide Machines)

In case you were confused about other things not to do, my Ipod offers a list of 50 songs that start with “Don’t,” including:

Don’t Ask Me (OK Go)
Don’t Ask Me How To Choose (Fine Young Cannibals)
Don’t Answer Me (Alan Parsons Project)

Don’t Come Around Here No More (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers)
Don’t Leave Me (Blink 182)
Don’t Stay Home (311)
Don’t Go (Yaz)
Don’t Go Back To Rockville (R.E.M.)
Don’t Let Me Stop You (Kelly Clarkson)
Don’t Make Me Come To Vegas (Tori Amos)
Don’t Miss You At All (Norah Jones)

Don’t Grow (Stewart Matthewman)
Don’t Matter (Akon)
Don’t Panic (Radiohead)

Don’t Let’s Start (They Might Be Giants)
Don’t Love You (TV On The Radio)
